The Augusta Training Shop, a non profit work center established in 1947, employs mentally and physically challenged adults ... with a purpose. Our talented employees are taught to repair, strip and refinish furniture, re-cane chairs and polish metals and learn to do their work independently.
The compassionate work, and quality workmanship, of the dedicated staff of the ATS is known throughout the community. By utilizing our services, you enable our mentally challenged employees a rich opportunity to partake in a dignified, meaningful life.
We offer an array of restoration services at affordable prices including furniture repair and refinishing, chair caning and metal polishing. Our remarkable employees, though challenged in many ways, repair, restore, refinish and re-cane furniture to a level unmatched by most commercial restoration shops.
Our furniture repair and refinishing services are well known throughout the CSRA for craftsmanship, premium quality and reasonable pricing. We take on any project, from minor repairs to extensive restorations, including stripping, sanding, finishing and painting of all types of furniture. We also promote the dying art of seat repair for chairs, stools, porch rockers, canoe seats and folding chairs with hand caning, sheet caning, caning, wide binder caning, ash splint weaving and fiber rushing. Our employees also lovingly polish brass, silver and copper items, returning them to their original luster.
The men and women who come to work every day at the Augusta Training Shop take pride in their ability to restore furniture to its former glory while learning a useful, potential wage-earning skill. Our programs are funded entirely by revenue from our work and contributions from individuals, churches and businesses. We are a United Way of the CSRA affiliate.
